Blessings 2009
Thank you to the following babies and their families for having us be a part of their Birth Days: Anastasia Victoria, Leila Marie, Graceanne Lynette, Bethany Janelle, Eliona Lucinda, Sarina Lael, Fannie N., Yalaina Rose, Geraldine LuAnne, Abby Noel, Jasmine Raine, Susannah Faith, Christiana June, Sarah J., Gemma Eliana, Ginger Rose, Vivianna Lee, Susan Elaine, Katie Fern, Sophia Charlotte, Kaylie Ann, Tilly, Aryn Joy, Isabelle Athena, Elizabeth Grace, Ella E., Emily Kristine, Jacob Alan, Sylvan Jay, Justin Mitchell, Reese Brendan, Aaron Granville, Jensen Douglas, Easton Patrick, Jonathon Asher, Jacob N., Keenan Brant, Seth Greyson, Lem Thompson, Jonas Daniel, Mervin W., Owen Taylor, Hudson Jay, Ein Wayne, Levi Solomon, Ryan Levon, Seth Adoni, David E., Elisha, Malakai Liam.
That’s 27 girls and 23 boys, 50 babies for the year. The largest was 11 lb. 7 oz. The smallest was 5 lb. 13 oz. (both were girls). We had 13 water births, 10 were first babies, 6 mothers with previous c-sections (all delivered normally!), 1 baby was breech and 1 set of twins. Shannon attended 19 births, Jennifer attended 15 births and had a baby herself. I attended 3 births with Talitha.
I drove 21,282 miles and worked 233 days. I had 23 labors or births on the weekend. I worked 41 nights with little or no sleep. I had 1 baby on a new moon and none on the full moon. I did births on my sister’s birthday, Jennifer’s birthday, my anniversary, St. Patrick’s day, Father’s day, 4th of July, my son’s birthday, and Thanksgiving day.
2009 was as busy as always for me. January starts with the annual scrapbook retreat. I was not interrupted for a birth but did take a break to do a prenatal.
February was spent getting ready for my Granddaughters 16th birthday party. It was a costume party with everyone dressed from the renaissance time period. It was lots of fun and work.
The midwife community lost Roni Grace this year unexpectedly. She was loved and will be greatly missed.
In March, I hit a deer coming home from a birth at 3am. She was OK but my car suffered about $700. worth of damage. I am thankful for a son-in-law that could fix it for me! Then I had 4 births on the same day. Yes, 4 different families in 4 different places had their babies on the same Saturday, and I made it to every one!
In April we had a family camping trip, then My husband and I went to the beach for a 5 day get away.
In May, Jennifer and her family moved back from Arkansas to Tennessee. Over the summer, my brick mailbox was demolished by a teenage girl in a car.
Lewisburg, KY lost their herb Dr, Emmanuel. He was a very important part of the community and served the people faithfully. He will be greatly missed.
I got a letter from NorthCrest hospital, telling me that I was not welcome there anymore. Dr. O’Donnell retired, so I am still working on back-up plans. I do have a promising prospect, however she is a little too far away.
In October, Jennifer delivered her 3rd baby boy, Levi. This made my 10th
grandchild, still only 2 girls!
We went camping the first weekend in December and got up Saturday morning to a dusting of snow. Glad we had lots of fire wood!
I did not leave the Country in ‘09, but will be going to Kenya on February 1st, this year. My husband is taking me to Alaska in July.
My calendar is filling up fast. I would still encourage you to call me early. We did away with our home phone, so my cell phone is always reachable. Some of you have referred ladies to me, thank you. I have decided to not take new folks, unless they know one of my families or have special circumstances. I have many clients having babies every couple of years, I do not want to get too busy. I still enjoy reading your birth stories, it’s never too late! Write it down, send it to me, email, facebook, call… Keep in touch.
Blessings,
Kathy, Jennifer and Shannon
