More About Kathy

In 1976 Kathy was trained as a certified nurse technician at Nashville Memorial Hospital. ( At that time the school was 6 months long.) She was then trained as a scrub nurse in labor and delivery to assist doctors with births. Kathy quit work when she got pregnant with her second baby. By the time she had her third child in 1978, she was comfortable enough with birth to threaten to have him at home. Her husband panicked so they did go to the hospital.

When her youngest child was three and the oldest was six, she went back to work in an obstetrics and gynecology office in Hendersonville. During the eight years she worked there she learned prenatal care and grew a compassionate heart for mothers to be. Through the years of seeing birth in the hospital and realizing that birth is not an illness or injury, which is what hospitals are for, she knew there had to be a better way, but she didn't know what to do about it.

Kathy stayed home with her children during their high school years. She attended several friends' births in hospitals as labor support. Kathy worked one on one with a certified professional midwife, (CPM) at the birth center in Gallatin for 20 months. Her experience was with homebirth and water birth.

In August of 1998, her fourth grandchild was born at her home. What a Blessing!
