Mothers Hope

Mother’s Hope is a home for unwed mothers in Nagaland India.  The home is also an orphanage/adoption center for the babies those mothers cannot keep.  The vision for this home was birthed by Moamenla Jamir who is from Nagaland.  She went to volunteer at a similar home in Hong Kong called Mother’s Choice.  She stayed there for a couple of years and that is where God gave her the vision and the heart to do the same service for her native people in her homeland.

The need for this type of service in Nagaland is enormous.  Most of the girls who find themselves in the situation of being pregnant and unmarried are desperate to terminate the pregnancy.  Many get abortions, many others attempt to induce their own abortions….. and many of those girls die from infection and hemorrhage.  If they survive, most are sterile for the rest of their life.

Moamenla provides a home for girls to come and live during the later stages of pregnancy.  She feeds and clothes the girls.  She also provides a means for medical care during the pregnancy and for the birth.  After the birth she helps them with job training and placement as well as a place to live if they do not have family.

Most of the babies are placed up for adoption because of the social stigma of being an unwed mother.  The babies are cared for very well by the staff at Mother’s Hope.  There are very strict guidelines for adoptive parents.  Currently all the babies are adopted locally or within India.  In the future they would like to provide international adoptions, but Mother’s Hope has only been in operation for 3 years and the legal process for that takes years to set up and get government approval.
