Sam and Jolie
 

Sam Simpkins was a Western KY photo journalism student. He was about to do his senior project and called me to be his “subject”. We met at Cracker Barrel, and he showed me his midterm project and asked if he could follow me around and take pictures of what I do. I told him he could but that my families were usually private about birth stuff and we would need to get permission from each family as he came along.

He was welcomed and encouraged by all my clients. So he became my shadow for 6 weeks. He went to prenatals, postpartums, and even photographed 3 births. The families that allowed him to photo their births got all the pictures, thousands, and will cherish them forever, I’m sure. Sam was like one of the family, and I have some great photos of my grandchildren as well. He also came to church with us, family get togethers and we sat and talked for hours. Sam proposed to Jolie, his girlfriend, while on a weekend ski trip during that time too. I hated to see him finish his project and move on. We had all become attached to him. Jennifer and I went to Sam and Jolie’s wedding, then, we hired them to photograph Jennifer and Jason’s wedding!

Many of the pictures on the site were taken by Sam, and some also by Jolie.

They are great photographers and I am blessed to have them in our family.
