If Something Goes Wrong
Complications at the time of birth are often caused by interventions.
For example, leaving the comfort of your home and loved ones to enter the unfamiliar surroundings of the hospital and people you have never met, will cause labor to slow down or stop all together. This is your body's natural defense. If your labor does not progress in the hospital, doctors will usually induce contractions with drugs. This can cause fetal distress which will lead to further intervention.
At home we do not intervene with your body's natural labor pattern. If there is an emergency, we go to the nearest hospital. Kathy and Jennifer keep their adult and neonatal CPR skills current. They also have emergency equipment if needed.
We do have a back-up doctor that we can consult with if needed. We have dealt with several different kinds of emergencies with good out comes. Each situation is unique and needs to be handled individually. We will be glad to discuss your concerns and address what we might do with each event.
